Subcontractor Estimating Boot Camp
Elevate Your Estimating Game: Next Event - December 1st - 2nd, 2025
Location: Maritime Conference Center, 692 Maritime Blvd, Linthicum Heights, MD 21090
Through proven frameworks, hands-on pricing exercises, and expert coaching, Well Built will help you slash bid risk, stack backlog, and turn every estimate into a competitive advantage.
How is the Well Built Estimating System Different?
With the Well Built Estimating System, you’ll learn to see the whole game—aligning the number, pursuit strategy, client priorities, and win criteria. You’ll build trust that wins work and smooths handoffs, earning credibility with the field, vendors, and clients. You’ll protect the company by managing risk, defending margin, and choosing the right pursuits. You’ll turn data into insight by tracking hit rate, capture rate, and final margins—and by closing the feedback loop on every bid. And you’ll lead from the front—because great estimators can set up an entire company for success.
Is this for me?
This boot camp is designed for:
Estimators , Preconstruction Managers, and Estimating Team Leads.
People who want a practical system for client & vendor relationships and for getting real feedback after bid day.
Pros who already know the fundamentals (this isn’t plan-reading 101) but want to speed up, tighten accuracy, and reduce oversight.
Best results: Send the whole estimating team to align on process, language, and expectations.
All trades welcome. The frameworks apply across scopes.
High-potentials who want to contribute directly to winning pursuits.

What will I learn?
The 10 Estimating Commandments — principles that separate cost from price, protect scope, and prevent “we’ll make it up later” thinking.
Reading the Construction Landscape — how delivery methods (DBB, CMAR, Negotiated, Design-Build) change the award game—and how subs actually win in each.
Bluebeam for Estimators — practical tool-chest workflows, batch linking/OCR, and repeatable take-offs that cut misses and rework.
Excel that Stands Up in a Review — constants tabs, toggle-friendly alternates, clean mark-up vs. margin math, and handoff-ready outputs.
Positioning Your Proposal — bid packaging that’s ethical and persuasive: clarifications, alternates, and value story that map to the client’s hot buttons.
Bidding Less, Winning More — concentrate effort where your value is rewarded; stop chasing what doesn’t fit.
You’ll leave with a repeatable approach your team can use the next morning—one that wins work and protects margin.
Meet the trainer
Matt Verderamo is Group Director at Well Built Construction Consulting, where he helps contractors sharpen preconstruction, estimating, and business development to win more of the right work. Before consulting, Matt rose through the ranks at a specialty subcontractor—serving as Vice President of Preconstruction & Sales by age 28, after earlier roles in project management and estimating. That operator’s perspective powers his practical approach: build disciplined go/no-go filters, tell a value-forward story, and protect margin from first contact to close. He holds a Master’s in Construction Management from Purdue University, regularly publishes insights for industry outlets, and co-hosts Well Built’s executive content series and webinars. Based in Maryland, Matt partners with leaders across North America to align teams, pursue work intentionally, and deliver profitable growth.
